CELEBRATION OF GUINEAN CHILD

Monday, 4th August 2008.
Labe, Capital of the Fouta Djallo Region, was to host this year’s launching of the month
of the Guinean Child. A special Kidwaves program “The voice of Alpha & Finda” was produced with the theme “Child Protection & Participation” chosen for this year’s event.
Junior members of the children’s parliament of the region, after four days of training, produced a quality recording on the 11 june 2008.

The ceremony was presided over by the Region’s Governor, M. Dioubaté,
who told the children to do their best to sensitise their communities about their rights.
M. Dioubaté thanked Plan Guinea for the support given to the Guinea Government
for the development and the welfare of the communities.
Children participating in the recording received gifts.
It will be recalled that this program is financed through Plan by a Norwegian phone company.
The month of the Guinean child was launched in Kissidougou on 7 june 2008 by the Prefect.
During june 2008, children in the Plan program zone, in partnership with Plan Guinea, will organize activities to highlight their rights and in particular about their rights to participation.
Thousands of children organized carnivals, recitals and cultural & artistic shows throughout
the zone on the 16 june 2008.
Two recordings of “the voice of Alpha & Finda” were made in Firawa and Gbangbadou
sub-prefectures in the prefecture of Kissidougou to mark the occasion in French and Kissie with theme of “child participation”.
Plan Guinea PSM and his staff, children, locale authorities and community members were present at the ceremony.
The ceremony was also witnessed by a team of journalists coming from Conakry to cover
the activities of Plan in the Forest Region of the country.
The sub-prefect of Dandou thanked Plan Guinea for the support given to the communities
for the welfare of their children.

During the month of June 2008, community members and prefectural authorities in Kissidougou, Gueckedou, Macenta, N’zerekore and Yomou expressed their readiness
to support Plan Guinea and the children for the promotion of the child rights.
