Kissidougou- To comply with one the main principles of development to protect children against all forms of violence and child abuse, Plan Guinea has initiated activities in this direction.
However, despite laudable efforts in this domain, a lot still remains to be done parents/guardians think that in order to prepare their children for the future, they must be involved in their own activities full time without taking into account the nature of the activities, their duration or the age of the children and this leads to physical/social/psychological constraints to children thereby compromising their access/maintenance/success in school and in life.
It is for this reason that the “Alpha & Finda” Club in Gueckedou was chosen for the execution of the campaign “Learn without fear” involving 24 members including 11 girls.
The members held a meeting during which the “Report of the UN on violence against children” was discussed and the following points drew the attention of participants:
- Violence is a threat or an intentional use of brute force or power against a child by an individual or a group to the detriment of his health, survival, development or dignity
- No violence against children is justifiable
- Violence exists all over the world either through culture, class, education, revenue or ethnic origin
- Every society, whatever its cultural, economic or social achievements must put en end to violence against children
- Violence exists in the family, at school, in the community, in detention centres and in workplaces
The Club organized activities against child abuse through poems, stories and drawings as part of its contribution and put in place a committee to oversee futures actions (a president, vp, admin secretary, treasurer, organization secretary and adviser).
- Four
information centres were also set up in Lycée J.B. Tito, College Karamoko Kourouma, Lycée Bambo and College Sokoro.
- Six identification commissions were created in Boyada, Carriere, Gnalenko, Solondon, Kisseneye & Waoutot to look for children victims of child abuse
The major responsibilities of these committee or commissions are to collect and share information between members of the club, to identify children in difficult conditions, to do advocacy for children in detention and organize awareness campaigns on violence against children in conformity with the contents of the “Report of the UN violence against children”.
