Plan Guinea and child participation...
Plan Guinea's Child-Centered Community Development (CCCD) approach is one that is based on three fundamental principals: partnership, transparency, and ownership of Plan by the communities. All projects are centered on the fundamental needs of children. Moreover, by carrying out appropriate projects, the approach will implicate more and more children and will thus involve them in the decision-making processes. Children will be taking actions which will have a positive impact on their life and future. Some of Plan Guinea/Community projects that involve children's participation include the Education Trust Fund, Child-to-Child, Radio Campaign program based on the rights of children, school journalists known in French as "Messagers de Partenariat" and the children's parliament. Soon there will be other initiatives like school Internet for children and young people. Let's talk about the Radio Campaign - a national program produced by Plan Guinea in six local languages (Kpélé, Toma, Kissi, Susu, Maninka, Pular) and in French, the Radio Campaign is intended to promote the UN's Convention on Children's Rights. The Radio Campaign project gives children the possibility to take part through drama plays and to promote their own rights be means of radio, the most common medium of communication.
These stories raise awareness of the population on the rights of children… on the right…
While striving to have greater audiences in the promotion of children's rights, Plan Guinea also assists the creation of school listening clubs. Video films based on the radio skits are also made for viewing in communities; and game competitions for children are organized on a quarterly basis through the Radio Campaign. A total of 10.000 comic books detailing stories based on children rights have been distributed across the country. All of these various activities promote the overall objective trying to diffuse the message over a large audience. Children must be given the chance to participate in decision-making about programs and activities that may have an impact of their lives. Plan places the child at the center of all what it does. For this reason, programs should not only be developed for children but should be developed with children at all stages of program development. Children must participate in the initiation, execution, monitoring, and evaluation phases, whenever feasible and possible to do so.
